If you are pregnant, a good tip is to get the right amount of vitamin B-12 in your diet. Vitamin B12 is key when it comes to decreasing the risk that birth defects will occur. While most people get enough B12, dieting women should still make sure they are getting more than enough.

If you are living with diabetes, ask your doctor's opinion on whether you should stay away from alcohol. Alcohol makes your blood sugar unstable, so you need to take precautions when drinking it.

When you are preparing meat, grilling and baking are a great alternative to frying. If you use butter during preparation, try using cooking spray instead. If you are browning beef, strain the meat after cooking, and follow that with a rinse in hot water. Doing this will get rid of unnecessary fat.

Broccoli is one of the most beneficial vegetables that you can consume. It boasts cancer-fighting agents, minerals and vitamins K, C and A. In order to preserve the most nutrients from your broccoli, you should prepare it by microwaving or steaming it quickly. Do not overcook broccoli.

If you are paying attention to your diet, following certain rules can make it easier to make healthy choices. Choose baked foods over fried ones. Follow this rule whenever possible, and before you know it, you will do it without having to think about it.

Make sure that you gradually merge into a new diet or way of life. You should list down the changes that you wish to make, then work on each list item, one at a time. Begin with the bad items, such as fried foods and pop, and you can better handle the worst of the worst eventually.

You must eat healthy fats daily. Fats from French fries, burger and onion rings are not considered to be healthy fats. These are unhealthy fats and should be avoided. Seeds, nuts, olive oil, and fish all have healthy fats that should be eaten daily.

You can make your favorite bread recipes a lot healthier if you substitute whole wheat flour in place of regular flour, but only use half the amount the recipe dictates. Keep the other half the same. You can enhance the nutrition without losing the texture. It is also easy to pump up the nutrients in bread by using less sugar and using applesauce instead of shortening.

If you have a sweet tooth, have a bit of dark chocolate. Dark chocolate contains valuable antioxidants so you needn't feel so guilty about the splurge.

Cut down on your intake of sugar-packed drinks like juice and soda. Make a note of how many such beverages you have in an average day, and then work on cutting that number in half. It's easy to lose track of just how much soda you're drinking in the course of the day. If you are aware of the numbers, you can identify the excessive unhealthy drinks.

As you can see, eating a balanced, nutritious diet is easy and fun.
